Description of Surah an-Nas

Surahs from the Koran were revealed for this humanity. From Arabic the word “an-Nas” is translated as “People”. The Almighty sent down the sura in Mecca, it contains 6 verses. The Lord turns to the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with the requirement to always resort to His help, to seek only Allah’s protection from evil. By “evil” we mean not so much the sorrows that accompany people’s earthly path, but the invisible evil that we commit ourselves, following the lead of our own passions, desires, and whims. The Almighty calls this evil “the evil of Shaitan”: human passions are a tempting genie who constantly tries to lead a person astray from the righteous path. Shaitan disappears only when Allah is mentioned: that is why it is so important to read and read regularly.

Surah Al-Falyak

When it comes to short suras from the Koran, I immediately remember the very often read Surah Al-Falyak, incredibly powerful both in semantic and ethical senses. Translated from Arabic, “Al-Falyak” means “Dawn”, which already says a lot.

Description of Surah Al-Falyak

Allah revealed Surah Dawn to the Prophet in Mecca. The prayer contains 5 verses. The Almighty, turning to His Prophet (peace be upon him), demands from him and all his followers to always seek salvation and protection from the Lord. Man will find salvation in Allah from all creatures capable of harming him. “The evil of darkness” is an important epithet that denotes the anxiety, fear and loneliness that people experience at night: a similar state is familiar to everyone. Surah “Dawn”, insha Allah, protects a person from the instigations of the devils who seek to sow hatred between people, cut off family and friendly ties, and instill envy in their souls. Prayer that Allah will save you from the wicked who has lost the mercy of Allah because of his spiritual weakness, and now seeks to plunge other people into the abyss of sin.

Surah Al-Ikhlas

A very short, easy to remember, but at the same time extremely effective and useful surah. To listen to Al-Ikhlas in Arabic, you can use video or MP3. The word "Al-Ikhlas" in Arabic means "Sincerity". The surah is a sincere declaration of love and devotion to Allah.

Description of Surah Al-Ikhlas

Allah revealed Surah “Sincerity” to the Prophet in Mecca. Al-Ikhlas contains 4 verses. Muhammad told his students that he was once mockingly asked about his attitude towards the Almighty. The answer was Surah Al-Ikhlas, which contains the statement that Allah is Self-sufficient, that He is One and Only in His perfection, that He has always been, and there is no one equal to Him in strength.

Pagans who professed polytheism turned to the Prophet (peace be upon him) with a demand to tell them about His God. The literal translation of the question they used was: “What is your Lord made of?” For paganism, a material understanding of God was common: they created idols from wood and metal, and worshiped animals and plants. The answer of Muhammad (pbuh) shocked the pagans so much that they abandoned the old faith and recognized Allah.

Many hadiths point out the benefits of Al-Ikhlas. In one article it is impossible to name all the advantages of the sura, there are so many of them. Let's list only the most important ones:

One hadith says how Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) addressed people with the following question: “Isn’t each of you able to read a third of the Koran overnight?” The townspeople were amazed and asked how this was possible. The Prophet replied: “Read Surah Al-Ikhlas!” It is equal to a third of the Koran." This hadith says that Surah “Sincerity” contains so much wisdom that cannot be found in any other text. But not one reflective person is 100% sure that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said so word for word, even if this hadith (the word “hadith” from Arabic translates as “story”) is good in meaning, because if it (peace him) did not say so, then this is a slander and a lie against the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

It is important to know: all these hadiths may not be reliable. Hadiths must be looked at in accordance with the Koran. If a hadith contradicts the Koran, then it should be discarded, even if it somehow managed to be inserted into collections of authentic hadiths.

Another hadith retells to us the words of the Prophet: “If a believer does this fifty times every day, then on the Day of Resurrection a voice from above will be heard over his grave: “Rise, O you who praise Allah, enter Paradise!” In addition, the Messenger said: “If a person reads Surah Al-Ikhlas a hundred times, then Allah Almighty will forgive him the sins of fifty years, provided that he does not commit four types of sins: the sin of bloodshed, the sin of acquisitiveness and hoarding, the sin of depravity and sin drinking alcohol." Reciting a surah is a work that a person does for the sake of Allah. If this work is done with diligence, the Almighty will definitely reward the person praying.

Hadiths repeatedly indicate the reward that is received for reciting Surah “Sincerity”. The reward is proportional to the number of readings of the prayer and the time spent on it. One of the most famous hadiths contains the words of the Messenger, demonstrating the incredible meaning of Al-Ikhlas: “If someone reads Surah Al-Ikhlas once, he will be overshadowed by the grace of the Almighty. Whoever reads it twice will find himself and his entire family under the shadow of grace. If someone reads it three times, he, his family and his neighbors will receive grace from above. To everyone who reads it twelve times, Allah will grant twelve palaces in Paradise. Whoever reads it twenty times, he [on the Day of Judgment] will walk with the prophets together like this (while pronouncing these words, the Prophet joined and raised his middle and index fingers up) Whoever reads it a hundred times, the Almighty will forgive all his sins of twenty-five years , except for the sin of bloodshed and the sin of non-repayment of debt. Whoever reads it two hundred times will have the sins of fifty years forgiven. Anyone who reads this surah four hundred times will receive a reward equal to the reward of four hundred martyrs who shed blood and whose horses were wounded in battle. Whoever reads Surah Al-Ikhlas a thousand times will not die without seeing his place in Paradise, or until it is shown to him.”

Another hadith contains some kind of recommendations for people planning to travel or already on the road. Travelers are instructed to recite Al-Ikhlas eleven times while grasping the doorposts of their home with both hands. If you do this, then the person will be protected on the way from the shaitans, their negative influence and attempts to instill fear and uncertainty in the soul of the traveler. In addition, reciting the surah “Sincerity” is a guarantee of a safe return to places dear to the heart.

It is important to know: no sura by itself can help a person in any way; only Allah can help a person and believers trust in Him! And many hadiths, as we see, contradict the Koran - the direct speech of Allah Himself!

There is another option for reading Surah Al-Ikhlas - in combination with Al-Nas and Al-Falak. Each prayer is said three times. Reading these three suras is protection from evil forces. As we say the prayer, we need to blow on the person we want to protect. The surah is especially useful for children. If the baby cries, screams, kicks his legs, there are signs of the evil eye, be sure to try “Al-Ikhlas”, “Al-Nas” and “Al-Falak”. The effect will be more powerful if you read the surahs before going to bed.

Surah Yasin

The greatest surah of the Koran is Yasin. This sacred text must be learned by all Muslims. To make memorization easier, you can use audio recordings or videos. The sura is quite large, it contains 83 verses.

  2. I swear by the wise Koran!
  3. Verily, you are one of the messengers
  4. on the straight path.

  7. The Word has come true for most of them, and they will not believe.
  8. Verily, We have placed fetters on their necks up to their chins, and their heads are raised up.
  9. We have placed a barrier in front of them and a barrier behind them and covered them with a veil, so that they cannot see.
  10. They don't care whether you warned them or not. They don't believe.
  11. You can warn only those who followed the Reminder and feared the Merciful without seeing Him with their own eyes. Please him with the news of forgiveness and a generous reward.
  12. Verily, We give life to the dead and record what they did and what they left behind. We have counted every thing in a clear guide (the Preserved Tablet).
  13. As a parable, give them the inhabitants of the village to whom the messengers came.
  14. When We sent two messengers to them, they considered them liars, and then We reinforced them with a third. They said: “Verily, we have been sent to you.”
  15. They said: “You are people just like us. The Merciful has not sent down anything, and you are just lying.”
  16. They said: “Our Lord knows that we have indeed been sent to you.
  17. We are entrusted only with the clear transmission of revelation.”
  18. They said: “Indeed, we have seen a bad omen in you. If you do not stop, we will certainly stone you and you will suffer painful suffering from us.”
  19. They said: “Your bad omen will turn against you. Really, if you are warned, do you consider it a bad omen? Oh no! You are people who have transgressed the boundaries of what is permitted!”
  20. A man came in a hurry from the outskirts of the city and said: “O my people! Follow the messengers.
  21. Follow those who do not ask you for reward and follow the straight path.
  22. And why should I not worship the One who created me and to whom you will be returned?
  23. Am I really going to worship other gods besides Him? After all, if the Merciful One wishes to harm me, then their intercession will not help me in any way, and they will not save me.
  24. Then I will find myself in an obvious error.
  25. Verily, I have believed in your Lord. Listen to me."
  26. He was told: “Enter Paradise!” He said: "Oh, if only my people knew
  27. for which my Lord has forgiven me (or that my Lord has forgiven me) and that He has made me one of the honoured!”
  28. After him, We did not send down any army from heaven against his people and We did not intend to send it down.
  29. There was just one voice and they died out.
  30. Woe to the slaves! Not a single messenger came to them whom they did not mock.
  31. Do they not see how many generations We have destroyed before them and that they will not return to them?
  32. Verily, they will all be gathered from Us.
  33. A sign for them is the dead earth, which We revived and brought from it the grain on which they eat.
  34. We created gardens of palm trees and grapes and made springs flow from them,
  35. so that they eat their fruits and what they created with their own hands (or that they eat fruits that they did not create with their own hands). Won't they be grateful?
  36. Great is He who created in pairs what the earth grows, themselves and what they do not know.
  37. The sign for them is the night, which We separate from the day, and so they plunge into darkness.
  38. The sun floats to its abode. This is the decree of the Mighty, the Knowing.
  39. We have predetermined positions for the moon until it again becomes like an old palm branch.
  40. The sun does not have to catch up with the moon, and the night does not run ahead of the day. Everyone floats in orbit.
  41. It is a sign for them that We carried their offspring in a crowded ark.
  42. We created for them in his image what they sit on.
  43. If We wish, we will drown them, and then no one will save them, and they themselves will not be saved,
  44. unless We show them mercy and allow them to enjoy the benefits until a certain time.
  45. When they are told: “Fear what is before you and what is after you, so that you may receive mercy,” they do not answer.
  46. Whatever sign from the signs of their Lord comes to them, they certainly turn away from it.
  47. When they are told: “Spend from what Allah has provided you with,” the disbelievers say to the believers: “Shall we feed the one whom Allah would have fed if He had willed? Truly, you are only in obvious error."
  48. They say, “When will this promise come true if you are telling the truth?”
  49. They have nothing to expect except for one voice, which will amaze them when they argue.
  50. They will neither be able to leave a will nor return to their families.
  51. The Horn is blown, and now they rush to their Lord from the graves.
  52. They will say: “Oh woe to us! Who raised us from the place where we slept? This is what the Most Gracious promised, and the messengers spoke the truth.”
  53. There will be only one voice, and they will all be collected from Us.
  54. Today, no injustice will be done to a single soul, and you will be rewarded only for what you have done.
  55. Indeed, the inhabitants of Paradise today will be busy with pleasure.
  56. They and their spouses will lie in the shadows on couches, leaning against each other.
  57. There are fruits and everything they need there for them.
  58. The merciful Lord greets them with the word: “Peace!”
  59. Separate yourself today, O sinners!
  60. Did I not command you, O sons of Adam, not to worship Satan, who is your open enemy,
  61. and worship Me? This is the straight path.
  62. He has already misled many of you. Don't you understand?
  63. This is Gehenna, which was promised to you.

  65. Today We will seal their mouths. Their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify of what they have acquired.
  66. If We wish, We will deprive them of their sight, and then they will rush to the Path. But how will they see?
  67. If We wish, We will disfigure them in their places, and then they will be able neither to move forward nor to return.
  68. To whom We grant long life, We give the opposite appearance. Don't they understand?
  69. We did not teach him (Muhammad) poetry, and it is not appropriate for him to do so. This is nothing but a Reminder and a clear Quran,
  70. so that he may warn those who are alive, and so that the Word may be fulfilled regarding those who do not believe.
  71. Do they not see that from what Our hands (We Ourselves) have done, We have created cattle for them, and that they own them?

  80. He created fire for you from green wood, and now you kindle fire from it.
  81. Is He who created the heavens and the earth incapable of creating others like them? Of course, because He is the Creator, the Knower.
  82. When He desires something, then He should say: “Be!” - how it comes true.
  83. Glory to the One in Whose Hand is the power over every thing! To Him you will be returned.

Sura Yasin Allah sent to Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Mecca. In this text, the Almighty informed the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) that he is the messenger of the Lord, and from the moment of revelation his task is to educate, teach and admonish the people vegetating in the abyss of polytheism. The surah also says about those who dare to disobey the instructions of Allah, who refuse to accept the Messenger - these unfortunate people will face severe punishment and universal censure.

Meaningful translation:

“Allah (God, Lord)… There is no god but Him, the eternally Living, Existing One. Neither sleep nor slumber will befall him. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and on the Earth. Who will intercede before Him, except according to His will!? He knows what has been and what will be. No one is able to comprehend even a particle of His knowledge, except by His will. The heavens and the Earth are embraced by the Kursiya (Great Throne) of Him, and His concern for them [About everything that is in our galactic system] does not bother Him. He is the Most High [in all characteristics above everything and everyone], the Great [His greatness has no limits]!” (see, Holy Koran, Surah al-Baqarah, verse 255 (2:255)).

Ayat Al-Kursi is included in Surah Al-Baqarah (translated from Arabic as cow). According to the account in the surah, the 255th verse. It should be said right away that many prominent theologians believe that Al-Qusri is a separate surah, and not an verse. Be that as it may, the Messenger stated that the verse is key in the Koran; it contains the most important statement that distinguishes Islam from other religions - the dogma of monotheism. It is important to know: you should not read the Koran loudly in a chant, much less compete in it - otherwise, while you listen to such melodies, you will fall into a trance and will not understand the most important thing - the meaning that Allah conveyed to humanity for observing the Koran and reflecting on Its verses.

Surah Al-Baqarah

- the second and most voluminous in the Koran. The sacred text contains 286 verses that reveal the very essence of religion. The sura contains the teachings of Allah, the Lord's instructions to Muslims, and a description of how they should behave in various situations. In general, we can say that Surah Al-Bakara is a text that regulates the entire life of a believer. The document talks about almost everything: about revenge, about the distribution of inheritance between the relatives of the deceased, about the consumption of alcoholic beverages, about playing cards and dice. Much attention is paid to issues of marriage and divorce, the trading side of life, and relationships with debtors.

Al-Baqarah is translated from Arabic as “The Cow.” This name is associated with a parable that is given in the sura. The parable tells about the Israelite cow and Moses, peace be upon him. In addition, the text contains many stories about the life of the Prophet and his followers. Al-Baqarah directly states that the Quran is a guide in the life of a Muslim, which is given to him by the Almighty. In addition, the surah contains a mention of believers who have received favor from Allah, as well as those who have angered the Almighty by disobedience and a tendency to disbelief.

Let us remember the words of the Great Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Do not turn your houses into graves. Shaitan flees from the house where Surah Al Baqarah is being read.” This exceptionally high assessment of Surah “Cow” allows us to consider it the most important in the Koran. Another hadith emphasizes the enormous importance of the sura: “Read the Quran, because on the Day of Resurrection he will come and intercede for his own. Read the two blooming surahs - surahs “al-Baqarah” and “Ali Imran”, because on the Day of Resurrection they will appear like two clouds or two flocks of birds lined up in rows and will intercede for their own. Read Surah al-Baqarah, because in it there is grace and abundance, and without it there is sadness and annoyance, and sorcerers cannot cope with it.”

In Surah Al-Baqarah, the last 2 verses are considered the main ones:

  • 285. The Messenger and the believers believed in what was revealed to him from the Lord. They all believed in Allah, His angels, His Scriptures and His messengers. They say: “We make no distinction between His messengers.” They say: “We listen and obey! We ask for your forgiveness, our Lord, and we are about to come to you.”
  • 286. Allah does not impose on a person beyond his capabilities. He will receive what he has acquired, and what he has acquired will be against him. Our Lord! Don't punish us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord! Do not place on us the burden that You placed on our predecessors. Our Lord! Don't burden us with what we can't do. Be lenient with us! Forgive us and have mercy! You are our Patron. Help us to prevail over unbelieving people.

In addition, the surah contains the verse “Al-Kursi”, which we cited above. The great meaning and incredible importance of Al-Kursi has been repeatedly emphasized by leading theologians, citing famous hadiths. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, calls on Muslims to be sure to read these verses, learn them, teach them to their family members, wives and children. After all, the last two verses of “Al-Baqara” and “Al-Kursi” are a direct appeal to the Almighty.

Interesting facts about Surah Al-Fatihah

Undoubtedly, Surah Al-Fatihah is the greatest Surah of the Quran. This is confirmed by the epithets that are commonly used to designate this unique text: “Opener of the Book,” “Mother of the Koran,” etc. The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him!) repeatedly pointed out the special significance and value of this surah. For example, the Prophet said the following: “Whoever has not read the Opening Book (i.e., Surah al-Fatihah) has not prayed.” In addition, the following words belong to him: “Whoever makes a prayer without reading the Opening Book in it, then it is not complete, not complete, not complete, not finished.” In this hadith, special attention is drawn to the threefold repetition of the word “not complete.” The Prophet designed the phrase in such a way as to enhance the impact on the listener, to emphasize that without reading Al-Fatiha, the prayer may not reach the Almighty.

Every Muslim should know that Surah Al-Fatiha is an indispensable element of prayer. The text fully deserves the honor of being placed before any sura of the Koran. “Al-Fatiha” is the most read surah in the Islamic world; verses from it are recited constantly and in each of the rakats.

One of the hadiths claims that the Almighty will reward the person who reads Surah Al-Fatihah to the same extent as the person who reads 2/3 of the Quran. Another hadith quotes the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him!): “I received 4 things from the special treasures of the Arsh (Throne), from which no one has ever received anything. These are Surah “Fatiha”, “Ayatul Kursi”, the last verses of Surah “Bakara” and Surah “Kausar”. The colossal significance of Surah Al-Fatiha is emphasized by the following hadith: “Four times Iblis had to grieve, cry and tear out his hair: the first when he was cursed, the second when he was driven from heaven to earth, the third when the Prophet (sallallahu ' Alaihi wa sallam) received the fourth prophecy when Surah Fatihah was revealed.”

“Muslim Sharif” contains one very revealing hadith, which quotes the words of the Great Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Today one of the doors of heaven opened, which had never been opened before. And from it came down one angel who had never before descended. And the angel said: “Receive the good news about two nurahs that have never been given to anyone before. One is the surah “Fatiha”, and the second is the end of the surah “Bakara (the last three verses).”

What attracts attention in this hadith first of all? Of course, the fact that the suras “Fatiha” and “Bakara” are called “nurs” in it. Translated from Arabic, this word means “light”. On the Day of Judgment, when Allah will judge people for their earthly path, the read surahs will become a light that will attract the attention of the Almighty and allow Him to separate the righteous from the sinners.

Al-Fatihah is ismi A'zam, that is, a text that should be read in any situation. Even in ancient times, doctors noticed that the sura written in rose oil on the bottom of porcelain dishes made the water extremely healing. The patient needs to be given water for 40 days. In a month he will feel relief, God willing. To improve the condition of toothache, headache, and stomach cramps, the surah must be read exactly 7 times.

Peace, Mercy and Blessings of Allah Almighty be upon you

And remind, for reminding benefits the believers. (Quran, 51:55)

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful!


1. Praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth and established darkness and light. But even after this, those who disbelieve equate others with their Lord.

2. He is the One who created you from clay and then appointed a time [for your death.] He also has an appointed time [for your resurrection], but after that you still doubt.

3. He is Allah in heaven and on earth. He knows what you hide and do openly, and He knows what you gain.

4. Whatever sign came to them from the signs of their Lord, they turned away from it.

5. They considered the truth to be a lie when it came to them, but news will reach them of what they mocked.


6. Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them? We gave them power on earth that we did not give you, sent down abundant rains from the sky and made rivers flow under them. We destroyed them for their sins and created other generations after them.


7. Even if We sent down the Scripture to you on paper and they touched it with their hands, the disbelievers would still say: “This is obvious witchcraft.”

8. They said: “Why doesn’t an angel come down to him?” If We had sent down an angel, the decision would have already been made, after which they would not have received a reprieve.

9. Even if We had sent down an angel, We would still have made him a man and caused them to be confused about what they doubt.


10. Messengers before you were also ridiculed, but those who mocked them were surrounded [or comprehended] by what they mocked.

11. Say: “Roam the earth and see what the end was of those who considered falsehood [the truth].”


12. Say: “To whom belongs what is in the heavens and on the earth?” Say: “To Allah! He prescribed mercy for Himself. He will surely gather you together on the Day of Resurrection, of which there is no doubt. Those who have lost themselves will never believe.”

13. To Him belongs everything that rests day and night, and He is the Hearer, the Knower.


14. Say: “Shall I take anyone other than Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, as my protector? He feeds, but He is not fed.” Say: “I am commanded to be the first of those who submit.” Do not be among the polytheists.

15. Say: “I fear that if I disobey my Lord, I will be tormented on the Great Day.”

16. Whoever is turned away from it [the torment] on that day, He will have mercy on him. This will be obvious success.


17. If Allah touches you with trouble, then no one can save you from it except Him. If He touches you with good, then He is capable of every thing.


18. He is the Overbearer and is above His servants. He is the Wise, the Knowing.


19. Say: “Whose testimony is most important?” Say: “Allah is Witness between me and you. This Koran was given to me as a revelation so that I could warn you and those to whom it reaches. Are you really testifying that there are other gods along with Allah?” Say: [“I do not bear witness to this”]. Say: “He is the only God, and I have no part in what you associate as partners.”


20. Those to whom We have given the Book know it as they know their sons. Those who have lost themselves will never believe.

21. Who could be more unjust than the one who slandered Allah or considered His signs a lie? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not prosper.

22. On that day We will gather them together, and then We will say to those who associated partners: “Where are the partners whose existence you thought?”

23. Then they will have no excuse except to say: “We swear by Allah, our Lord, we were not polytheists!”

24. Look how they lie about themselves! But what they imagined will leave them [or: disappear].


25. Among them are those who listen to you, but We have thrown veils over their hearts so that they cannot understand it [the Quran], and We have struck their ears with deafness. Whatever sign they see, they still will not believe in it, and therefore, when they come to you to argue with you, the unbelievers say: “These are just legends of the ancient peoples.”

26. They keep others from it [the straight path], and they themselves shun it, but they destroy only themselves, not feeling [it].

27. If only you could see them when they are stopped before the Fire. They will say: “Oh, if only we could be brought back!” We would not consider the signs of our Lord a lie and would become believers!”

28. Oh no! What they had hidden before was revealed to them. If they were returned back, they would certainly return to what was forbidden to them. Truly, they are liars.

29. They say: “There is only our worldly life, and we will not be resurrected.”


30. If only you could see them when they are stopped before their Lord. He will say: “Isn’t this the truth?” They will say: “Of course, we swear by our Lord!” He will say: “Taste the torment because you did not believe!”


31. Those who denied meeting Allah have already found themselves at a loss. When the Hour suddenly comes for them, they, carrying their burdens on their backs, will say: “Woe to us for what we missed there!” How bad is what they will bear!

32. The worldly life is just a game and fun, and the last abode is better for those who fear God. Don't you understand?


33. We know that what they say makes you sad. They do not consider you a liar - the wrongdoers reject the signs of Allah!


34. Before you, the messengers were also considered liars, but they tolerated being called that and insulted until Our help came to them. No one will distort the words of Allah, and some news about the messengers has already reached you.


35. If you are burdened by their disgust, then if you can find a passage in the earth or a ladder to heaven, then bring them a sign. If Allah had willed, He would have gathered them all on the straight path. Therefore, do not be one of the ignorant.

36. Only those who listen answer. And Allah will raise the dead, after which they will be returned to Him.

37. They say: “Why was not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?” Say: “Allah has the power to send down a sign.” But most of them do not have knowledge.


38. All living beings on earth and birds flying on two wings are communities similar to you. We have not missed anything in Scripture. And then they will be gathered to their Lord.


39. Those who consider Our signs to be lies are deaf and dumb in darkness. Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills to the straight path.

40. Say: “Tell me, will you call on anyone along with Allah if the punishment of Allah strikes you or the Hour comes, if only you speak the truth?”

41. Oh no! You will call only on Him. If He wishes, He will deliver you from that for which you begin to cry to Him, and then you will forget about those whom you included as partners.

42. We have already sent messengers to nations before you. We subjected them to poverty and illness so that they would become humble.

43. Why, when Our punishment struck them, did they not become humble? Their hearts became hardened, and the devil embellished for them what they did.


44. When they forgot what they were reminded of, We opened before them the gates to all things. When they rejoiced at what they had been given, We seized them suddenly, and they fell into despair!

45. The wrongdoers were destroyed to the ground. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds!


46. ​​Say: “What do you think, if Allah takes away your hearing and your sight and seals your hearts, what god other than Allah will restore all this to you?” See how We clarify the signs, yet they still turn away.

47. Say: “Do you think that if the punishment of Allah strikes you unexpectedly or openly, will anyone be destroyed except the unjust people?”


48. We send messengers only as bearers of good news and warners. Those who believe and do righteous deeds will not know fear and will not be saddened.

49. And those who reject Our signs will be tormented because they were wicked.


50. Say: “I do not tell you that the treasures of Allah are with me, and I do not know what is unseen. I'm not telling you that I am an angel. I follow only what is revealed to me.” Say: “Are the blind and the seeing equal? Won't you think about it?"


51. Warn them to those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord when they will have no protector or intercessor besides Him. Perhaps they will be afraid!


52. Do not drive away those who cry to their Lord in the morning and before sunset, striving for His Face. You are not at all responsible for them, and they are not at all responsible for you. If you drive them away, you will find yourself one of the wrongdoers.


53. Thus We tempted some of them with others, so that they would say: “Has Allah shown mercy among us only to these?” Doesn't Allah know best those who are grateful?

54. When those who believe in Our signs come to you, say to them: “Peace be with you! Your Lord has ordained for Himself to be Merciful, and if one of you does evil out of ignorance, and then repents and begins to do righteous deeds, then He is Forgiving, Merciful.”

55. Thus We clarify the signs, so that the path of sinners becomes clear.


56. Say: “It is forbidden for me to worship those whom you invoke along with Allah.” Say: “I will not indulge your desires. Otherwise, I will go astray and will not be among those who follow the straight path.”


57. Say: “I am guided by a clear proof from my Lord, but you consider it a lie. I don't own what you're rushing. Only Allah makes the decision. He speaks the truth and is the Best of judges."


58. Say: “If I had possessed what you are hastening, the dispute between you and me would have already been decided. But Allah knows best about the wrongdoers.


59. He has the keys to the hidden, and only He knows about them. He knows what is on land and in sea. Even a leaf falls only with His knowledge. There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything fresh or dry, that is not in the Clear Scripture.


60. He is the One who puts you to sleep at night and knows what you do during the day. Then He raises you up during the day so that the appointed time [the term of your life will be completed]. Then you must return to Him, and then He will tell you what you have done.


61. He is the Overcomer and is above His servants. He sends guardians to you. When death comes to one of you, Our messengers kill him, and they do not fail.

62. Then they are returned to Allah, their True Protector. He alone makes the decision, and He is the Fastest in calculation.


63. Say: “Who saves you from darkness on land and sea, when you call upon Him humbly and secretly, saying: “If He saves us from this, we will certainly be grateful!”

64. Say: “Allah saves you from this and from all other sorrows. But you continue to involve your comrades.”


65. Say: “He has the power to send upon you torment from above or from under your feet, or to confuse you by dividing you into factions and making some of you taste the cruelty of others.” See how We explain the signs so that they may understand.

66. Your people considered it [the Quran] a lie, although it is the truth. Say: “I am not your trustee or guardian.”

67. There is a deadline for every message, and you will know [about it].


68. When you see those talking about Our signs, turn away from them until they get carried away with another conversation. If the devil makes you forget [about this], then do not sit with unjust people after you remember.

69. Those who fear God do not bear any responsibility for their calculation. They should only remind them, perhaps they will be afraid.


70. Leave those who consider their religion to be fun and amusement and are deceived by worldly life. But admonish them with this, so that the soul does not condemn itself to destruction by what it has acquired, when it has no patron and intercessor except Allah, and when nothing will be accepted from it, no matter what ransom it offers. They doomed themselves to destruction by what they acquired. They are destined for boiling drink and painful suffering because they were unbelievers.


71. Say: “Shall we worship besides Allah that which does not bring us any benefit or harm? Will we turn back after Allah has guided us to the straight path, like the one who was deceived and confused by the devils on earth, whose companions call him to the straight path: “Come to us”?” Say: “The path of Allah is the only true path, and we are commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds.

72. Perform prayer and fear Him, for to Him you will be gathered.”


73. He is the One who created the heavens and the earth for the sake of truth. On that day He will say: “Be!” - and it will come true. His Word is truth. He alone will have power on the day the Horn is blown. He knows the hidden and the obvious, and He is the Wise, the Knowing.


74. So Ibrahim [Abraham] said to his father Azar: “Do you really consider idols to be gods? I see that you and your people are in obvious error."

75. Thus We showed Ibrahim [Abraham] the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, so that he would become one of the convinced.

76. When the night covered him with its darkness, he saw a star and said: “Here is my Lord!” When it set, he said: “I don’t like those who set.”


77. When he saw the rising moon, he said: “Here is my Lord!” When it set, he said: “If my Lord does not guide me to the straight path, then I will become one of the lost people.”


78. When he saw the rising sun, he said: “Here is my Lord! It is larger than others." When it set, he said: “O my people! I am not involved in what you associate as comrades.


79. I sincerely turned my face to the One who created the heavens and the earth, and I do not belong to the polytheists!


80. His people began to argue with him, and then he said: “Will you really argue with me about Allah, while He has guided me to the straight path? And I do not fear those whom you associate as partners with Him, unless my Lord wills something. My Lord comprehends every thing with knowledge. Will you not remember the edification?


81. How can I fear those whom you associate as partners, if you are not afraid to associate as partners with Allah those about whom He has not sent down to you any proof? Which of the two groups has more reason to feel safe, if only you know?

82. Those who believe, and do not base their faith on injustice, are safe, and they are guided.


83. These are Our arguments which We gave to Ibrahim [Abraham] against his people. We raise in degrees whomever we wish. Verily, your Lord is Wise, Knowing.


84. We gave him Ishaq [Isaac] and Yaqub [Jacob]. We led them both on the straight path. Even earlier, We guided Nuh [Noah] to the straight path, and from his descendants - Davud [David], Suleiman [Solomon], Ayyub [Job], Yusuf [Joseph], Musa [Moses] and Harun [Aaron]. Thus We reward those who do good.

85. And also Zechariah [Zechariah], Yahya [John], Isa [Jesus], and Ilyas [Elijah]. All of them were from among the righteous.

86. And also Ishmael [Ishmael], Alias ​​[Elisha], Yunus [Jonah] and Lut [Lot]. We exalted them all above the worlds.

87. And also some of their fathers, descendants and brothers. We chose them and led them to the straight path.

88. This is the guidance of Allah, by which He guides those of His servants whom He pleases. But if they had included partners, then everything they did would have been in vain.


89. These are they to whom We have given the Book, wisdom and prophecy. And even if they do not believe in it, We have already entrusted it to other people who will not become disbelievers.


90. These are those whom Allah has guided. Follow their straight path. Say: “I do not ask you for reward for it. This is nothing less than a Reminder for the worlds."


91. They did not appreciate Allah properly when they said: “Allah has not revealed anything to man.” Say: “Who sent down as a light and a sure guide for the people the Scripture with which Musa [Moses] came, and which you turned into separate sheets, showing some of them and hiding many others? But you were taught something that neither you nor your fathers knew.” Say: "Allah." Then leave them to amuse themselves with their own idle talk.


92. This is the Blessed Scripture which We have revealed and which confirms what came before it, so that you may admonish the Mother of Cities [the inhabitants of Mecca] and those who live around her. Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it [the Quran] and are careful in their prayers.


93. Who is more unjust than he who slanders Allah, or says, “I have been given a revelation,” when no revelation has been given to him, or says, “I will send down the like of what Allah has revealed”? If you could see the wicked when they find themselves in their death throes, and the angels stretch out their hands to them: “Give up your souls! Today you will be rewarded with humiliating torment because you spoke untruths about Allah and exalted yourself over His signs.”


94. You came to Us alone, as We created you the first time, and left behind what We had endowed you with. We do not see with you your intercessors, whom you considered to be partners of Allah. The ties between you are severed, and what you claimed has left you.


95. Allah reveals the grain and the pit. He takes the living from the dead and takes the dead from the living. This is Allah! How turned away you are [from the truth]!


96. He reveals the morning dawn. He appointed the night for rest, and the sun and moon for numbering. This is the decree of the Mighty, the Knowing.


97. He is the One who created the stars for you, so that you could find your way through them in the darkness of land and sea. We have already explained the signs for people who know.


98. He is the One who created you from one soul. For you there is a place of abode [on earth or in the wombs of mothers] and a place of storage [in the graves or loins of fathers]. We have already clarified the signs for people who understand.


99. He is the One who sent down water from the sky. Through it We raised plants of all kinds. From them we produce green herbs, and from them we produce grains arranged one on top of the other. On date palms, low-hanging clusters grow from the ovaries. We grow vineyards, olives and pomegranates, which have similarities and differences. Look at their fruits when they appear and when they ripen. Truly, in this are signs for the people who believe.


100. They associated the jinn as partners with Allah, but He created them. They invented sons and daughters for Him without having any knowledge about it. Most pure is He and above all that they attribute [to Him].


101. He is the Creator of heaven and earth. How can He have a son if He does not have a wife? He created every thing and knows about everything that exists.


102. Such is Allah your Lord. There is no god but Him, the Creator of every thing. Worship Him! He is the Trustee and Guardian of every thing.

103. The eyes cannot comprehend Him, but He comprehends the eyes. He is the Perceptive [or: Good], Knowledgeable.


104. [Say]: “Visible signs have already come to you from your Lord. He who saw did good for himself, but he who was blind did harm to himself. I am not your guardian."

105. This is how We expound the verses in various ways, so that they say: “You have learned this!” - and that We explain it to people who know.

106. Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord. There is no god but Him. And turn away from the polytheists.

107. If Allah had willed, they would not have associated partners. We have not appointed you as their guardian, and you are not their trustee.


108. Do not insult those to whom they call besides Allah, otherwise they will insult Allah out of hostility and ignorance. Thus We have embellished their deeds for every people. Then they will have to return to their Lord, and He will tell them what they did.


109. In the name of Allah they took the greatest oaths that if a sign came to them, they would certainly believe in it. Say: “The signs are with Allah. And how do you know that they will not believe even if it comes to them?”


110. We turn away their hearts and minds because they did not believe in it the first time, and leave them to wander blindly in their own iniquity.


111. Even if We were to send down angels to them, and the dead were to speak to them, and We were to gather before them all that exists, they would never believe unless Allah willed it. However, most of them do not know [about this].


112. Thus We have determined enemies for each prophet - devils from among men and jinn, instilling beautiful words of seduction in each other. If your Lord had willed, they would not have done so. Leave them alone with their inventions.


113. [We made sure] that the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter would be inclined towards these words, and that they would be content with them and do what they do.


114. [Say]: “Shall I desire any judge other than Allah, when He has revealed to you the Book, having explained it in detail?” Those to whom We have given the Book know that it was sent down from your Lord with truth. Therefore, do not be among those who doubt.

115. The word of your Lord was fulfilled truthfully and justly! Nobody will change His Words. He is the Hearer, the Knower.


116. If you obey the majority of those on earth, they will lead you astray from the path of Allah. They follow only assumptions and only fabricate.

117. Indeed, your Lord knows best who goes astray from His path. He also knows best who follows the straight path.

118. So eat from what Allah’s name is mentioned, if you believe in His signs.


119. Why should you not eat from something over which the name of Allah is pronounced, when He has already explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you, unless you are forced to do so? Indeed, many mislead others with their own desires, without any knowledge. Indeed, your Lord knows better the criminals.


120. Leave obvious and hidden sins. Indeed, those who commit sin will receive recompense for what they did.


121. Do not eat from anything on which the name of Allah has not been pronounced, for this is impiety. Truly, the devils inspire their assistants to argue with you. If you obey them, you will end up as polytheists.


122. Is one who was dead and We brought him back to life and gave him light, thanks to which he walks among people, like one who is in darkness and cannot come out of it? Thus, what they do seems wonderful to unbelievers.


123. This is how We created the main sinners in every village, so that they would plot intrigues there. However, they plot only against themselves, but do not feel it.


124. When a sign appeared to them, they said: “We will not believe until we receive what the Messengers of Allah received.” Allah knows best who to entrust His message to. Sinners will suffer humiliation before Allah and severe torment for the fact that they plotted.


125. Whoever Allah wishes to guide to the straight path, He opens his chest to Islam, and whomever He wishes to lead astray, He squeezes and compresses his chest, as if he were climbing into heaven. Thus Allah sends defilement [or: punishment] to those who do not believe.

126. This is the straight path of your Lord. We have already explained the signs in detail to the people who remember.

127. For them is prepared an Abode of peace and prosperity with their Lord. He is their Patron because of what they did.


128. On that day He will gather them together: “O host of jinn! You have misled many people." Their human helpers will say: “Our Lord! Some of us took advantage of others, and we reached our time that You appointed for us.” He will say: “Fire will be your abode, in which you will remain forever, unless Allah wishes otherwise!” Verily, your Lord is Wise, Knowing.

129. Thus We allow some wrongdoers to rule over others for what they acquire.


130. [We will say]: “O host of jinn and people! Did not messengers come to you from among you, who read My verses to you and warned you about facing this day of yours?” They will say: “We are testifying against ourselves.” The worldly life has deceived them, and they will bear witness against themselves that they were unbelievers.

131. This [will happen] because your Lord does not destroy cities unjustly while their inhabitants remain ignorant.

132. For everyone there will be steps corresponding to what they have accomplished. Your Lord is not ignorant of what they do.


133. Your Lord is rich and merciful. If He wishes, He will destroy you and make whomever He will as your successors, just as He created you from the offspring of other people.

134. Indeed, what is promised to you will come, and you will not be able to escape it.


135. Say: “O my people! Act as you wish, and I will act as well. You will find out who will get the Last Abode. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not prosper.”


136. They dedicate to Allah a share of what He produces from crops and livestock, and according to their understanding they say: “This is for Allah, and this is for the partners.” What is intended for partners does not end up with Allah, but what is intended for Allah ends up with partners. It's bad what they decide!


137. Thus, to many polytheists, their companions made it beautiful to kill children in order to destroy them and make their religion confused. If Allah had willed, they would not have acted this way. Leave them alone with their inventions.


138. Based on their assumptions, they say: “These cattle and these crops are forbidden. Only those we allow can eat them.” They forbid riding [on horseback and carrying loads] on some cattle, and they do not pronounce the name of Allah over other cattle, slandering Him. He will reward them for what they invent!


139. They say: “What is in the bellies of these cattle is lawful for our men and forbidden for our wives.” If he is born dead, then they all have the right to him. [Allah] will reward them for what they attributed, for He is the Wise, the Knowing.


140. Those who killed their children out of stupidity, without any knowledge, and forbade what Allah had given them, making a slander against Allah, suffered loss. They fell into error and did not follow the straight path.


141. He is the One Who created gardens with trellises and without trellises, date palms and cereals with different tastes, olives and pomegranates with similarities and differences. Eat of these fruits when they are ripe, and pay tribute on the day of harvest, but do not overindulge, for He does not love those who overindulge.


142. Among livestock there are those intended for transportation and those not intended for this. Eat from what Allah has provided for you, and do not follow in the footsteps of the devil, because he is a clear enemy for you.


143. Eight paired individuals: two from sheep and two from goats. Say: “Has he forbidden males or females? Or what is in the wombs of females? Tell me based on knowledge, if you are telling the truth.”


144. Two from among camels and two from among cows. Say: “Has he forbidden males or females? Or what is in the wombs of females? Or were you present when Allah commanded you to do this?” Who is more unjust than the one who lies against Allah in order to mislead people without any knowledge? Verily, Allah does not guide the wrongdoers.


145. Say: “From what has been revealed to me, I find it forbidden to eat only carrion, shed blood and the flesh of swine, which [or: which] is unclean, and also unlawful [meat of animals] slaughtered for other than Allah " If someone is forced to do this without disobedience and without transgressing [the limits of what is necessary], then Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.


146. For the Jews We forbade all animals with uncloven hooves. We forbade them the fat of cows and sheep, except that which is on the spine and entrails or mixed with the bones. Thus We punished them for their outrages. Verily, We are truthful.


147. If they consider you a liar, then say: “Your Lord has abundant mercy, but His punishment cannot be averted from sinful people.”


148. The polytheists will say: “If Allah had willed, neither we nor our ancestors would have associated partners, nor would they have forbidden anything.” In the same way, those before them considered the messengers liars until they tasted Our punishment. Say: “Have you any knowledge that you can present to us? You are just following assumptions and lying.”

149. Say: “Allah has clear proof. If He had willed, He would have led you all to the straight path.”


150. Say, “Bring your witnesses to testify that Allah has forbidden it.” Even if they begin to testify, do not testify with them and do not indulge the desires of those who considered Our signs to be lies, who do not believe in the Hereafter and equate others with their Lord.


151. Say: “Come and I will recite what your Lord has forbidden you.” Do not associate anyone with Him as a partner and do good to your parents. And do not kill your children for fear of poverty, for We provide food for you along with them. And do not approach vile acts, open or hidden. Do not kill a soul that Allah has forbidden to kill unless you have the right to do so. Allah has commanded this to you, so perhaps you will understand.


152. Do not approach the property of an orphan except for his benefit until he reaches maturity. Fill the scales and measures with justice. We do not impose on a person beyond his capabilities. When you speak a word, be fair, even if it concerns a relative. Be faithful to your covenant with Allah. Allah has commanded you this, so that you may remember it as a lesson.


153. This is My straight path. Follow it and do not follow [other] paths, for they will lead you astray from His path. He commanded you this, perhaps you will be afraid.


154. We also gave to Musa [Moses] the Book as a completion [of mercy] to those who were virtuous, as an explanation of all things, guidance and mercy, so that they may believe in meeting their Lord.

155. This is the Blessed Book that We have revealed. Follow it and fear God, perhaps you will receive mercy.


156. We revealed it, so that you may not say, “The Book was revealed only to two communities before us, and we knew nothing of what they studied.”


157. Or lest you say, “If the Book had been revealed to us, we would have been guided better than they.” A clear sign has already come to you from your Lord, guidance and mercy. Who is more unjust than the one who considers the signs of Allah to be lies and turns away from them? We will reward those who turn away from Our signs with severe torment because they turned away.


158. Do they expect anything other than that angels will appear to them, or that your Lord will appear, or that some of the signs of your Lord will appear? On the day when certain signs of your Lord appear, faith will not benefit a soul unless it has first believed or acquired good through its faith. Say: “Wait, and we will wait too.”


159. You have nothing to do with those who split their religion and divided into sects. Their case is with Allah, and He will later inform them of what they did.


160. Whoever appears with a good deed will receive a tenfold reward. And whoever comes with an evil deed will receive only an appropriate reward, and they will not be treated unfairly.


161. Say: “Verily, my Lord has guided me to the right path, to the right religion, the faith of Ibrahim [Abraham]. He was a Hanif and was not one of the polytheists.”

162. Say: “Verily, my prayer and my sacrifice [or worship], my life and my death, are dedicated to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

163. He has no partners. This is what I have been ordered to do, and I am the first of the Muslims.”


164. Say: “Shall I seek another Lord besides Allah, when He is the Lord of all things?” Each soul acquires [sins] only to its own detriment. No soul will bear another's burden. Then you must return to your Lord, and He will tell you about what you differed [in].


165. It is He who made you successors on earth, and raised some of you above others in rank, to test you with what He has given you. Indeed, your Lord is swift in punishment. Verily, He is Forgiving, Merciful.

This is a Madinan sura, consisting of six verses.

سْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ

مَلِكِ النَّاسِ

إِلَهِ النَّاسِ

الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ

مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَ النَّاسِ
Meaning:

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful!

1. Say: “I seek protection from the Lord of people [Allah],

2. To the Ruler [Lord] of the people,

3. God of people

4. from evil (Satan) inspiring (evil), (and at the mention of the name of Allah) retreating,

5. who inspires evil in the breasts [souls] of people,

6. (And Satan is) from (the number of) jinn and people.

Introductory Notes

This sura, the second of the suras muawwazatein(beginning with the words “Auzu ..." - “I resort (to the protection of Allah”)), is a continuation and expansion of the meaning of the previous sura and, in a sense, an addition to it. In Surah Al-Falaq, believers are encouraged to seek protection from Allah from the difficulties and hardships of life, while in this Surah, believers are encouraged to seek protection from the trials and tribulations of the Hereafter. In the interpretation of Surah Al-Falyak it was said that the word "sharr" can be understood as “evil,” “harm,” and even “causes that can cause harm, pain, and misfortune.” In this surah we are looking for protection from evil and the cause of all evils, which are called instigations and suggestions from the shaitan. Since the difficulties and tribulations of the hereafter are more serious, the last surah of the Qur'an strongly emphasizes the importance of invoking Allah's protection against this evil (the hereafter).

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

“Say: “I seek protection from the Lord of men.”

Name of Allah "Rabb" denotes "He Who Provides Subsistence" and implies the Supreme Provider of Subsistence, who takes care of all creatures under all circumstances. In this verse, He (Allah) is called “Lord of people”, while in the previous sura He is called “Lord of the dawn”, since in the previous sura the goal was to seek protection from external, physical difficulties and hardships of life. However, human existence is not limited to this - animals also experience physical difficulties and hardships, but only people are subject to the instigations of the shaitan and the influence of the jinn (Mazhari from Baidawi).

مَلِكِ النَّاسِ

إِلَهِ النَّاسِ

"To the Ruler [Lord] of men, the Lord of men"

The reason why the attribute “Lord of people” (“Maliki n-us”) was added to the word “Rabb” is that the word “Rabb” can also be used in relation to a person in some private matters: for example, in the phrase “rabb ad-dar” (owner of the house, estate), “rabb al-mal” (owner of property, wealth). However, no owner or owner is a “lord” or “master”. Therefore, the word “malik” (ruler, ruler) was added to the word “Rabb” to show that He (Allah) alone is not only the “Lord of people”, but also the “Lord”, “King of people”.

Moreover, not every king is worthy of worship. Therefore, another quality of “Ilyaha n-us” - “Lord” was added to the word “us”, “people”. The divine wisdom that lies in the combination of all these qualities (“Lord of men”, “Lord of men”) is that each of these qualities involves seeking protection. Every master has servants and protects them. Likewise, every king has subjects and takes care of them. Therefore, turning to the ruler and lord for protection becomes even more obvious (from these qualities). But only Allah, and no one else, is described by all these qualities at the same time. Thus, turning to Him for protection through the utterance of (given) His qualities is the greatest protection and such an approach (using His given qualities) is most likely to be accepted.

Since the first sentence contains the word "us" (the people), the second and third verses should be referred to them (the same), by pronouncing the words "malikihim" (their ruler) and not simply by pronouncing the word "us" (the people). This repetition (of the word "us" in the sura) was used purposefully to add strength and clarity to the text, creating rhyme and melodic sequence (of the sura).

Scholars have explained the reason for the repeated repetition of the word “us” (it is repeated five times in this surah) in different ways. Here is one of these interpretations:
*The first time it refers to children. The word "Rabb", which refers to the care and protection of Allah, hints at this because children need nutrition and care the most.

The second occurrence (of this word) refers to youth, an allusion to this in the context of the word "Malik" (king, lord), which refers to the Sovereignty of Allah.

Its third use refers to adulthood - older people are no longer so busy with this world and think about eternity, about Allah, surrender to Him alone, unconditionally obey Him and devote their love to Him alone. The context for this is the word “Ilyah” (Lord), which indicates the worship of the Almighty.

The fourth use of this word refers to the righteous servants of Allah. A hint of this is the word “waswasa” (evil whispers), since Satan is the enemy of the righteous servants of Allah. His job is to instill evil thoughts in the hearts of such people.

The fifth appearance (use of the word) refers to those who do evil, as we seek protection from their evil deeds.

مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ

“From evil (Satan) inspiring (evil), (and when mentioning the name of Allah) retreating (when pronouncing the name of Allah).”

After mentioning the three qualities of Allah, the present verse describes the one from whom we seek protection. He is “the instigator who inspires evil in us.” Word "waswas" in the original there is an infinitive with the meaning “waswasa” (whisper - communicate something using the breath instead of the voice, in a barely audible manner). However, an exaggeration (hyperbole) is used here, referring to the shaitan in the sense that he is the incarnate whisperer (suggesting evil). The whispering of the shaitan means that he is trying to force people to obey him, instilling in them all sorts of fears and false thoughts that he throws into a person’s heart without uttering a word (Qurtubi).

Word "Hannas" comes from the word "khanasa" which means "to sneak up or approach furtively." Shaitan received this name because he lurks in the heart of a person: when a person becomes absent-minded, he begins to whisper, but when a person remembers Allah, he runs away. When a person forgets about Allah again, the shaitan returns, but when he remembers Allah again, he runs away again. This happens all the time. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Allah has built two houses in the heart of man, in one there lives an angel, and in the other a shaitan. The angel encourages him to good deeds, and the shaitan directs him to evil deeds. When a person remembers Allah, the shaitan retreats, but when he stops remembering Allah, the shaitan settles in the person’s heart and inspires evil thoughts in him.”(Reported by Abu Yala with reference to the authority of Anas, quoted by Mazhari).
Verse 114:6

مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَ النَّاسِ

“(And Satan is) from (the number of) jinn and people.”

Here the expression “waswas” mentioned in verse 4 is explained with the meaning that the devils can be among people and jinn who instill evil in the hearts of people. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) found pleasure in constantly seeking protection against the evil and vile devils from among people and jinn.

A question may arise here. It is obvious that the shaitan can inspire evil thoughts and deeds in people's hearts, but how can the shaitans from among people make evil suggestions? They approach directly and in an open voice communicate something that is not waswas. The answer is that the shaitans among humans can also instill doubts in the minds of people without expressing them openly and clearly.

Sheikh Izzuddin ibn Abdussalam writes in his work “Al-Fawaid fi Mushkilat il-Quran” that the whispering from people refers to the whispering of our own nafs (which is inside a person). Just as the shaitan gives a person evil thoughts, so a person’s nafs encourages him to evil. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us to seek protection from Allah from the evil of our own self in the following prayer:

“O Allah! I seek refuge with You from my own evil, from the evil of Satan and the evil of idolatry.”

Interpretation of the meanings (tafsir) of Surah an-Nas

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful!
Surah "People" was revealed in Mecca. It consists of 6 verses. In this surah, Allah Almighty commands His prophet - may Allah bless him and greet him! - resort to Him, asking Him for protection from great evil, which many people do not notice, since it stems from their passions and wicked whims and pushes them to do what Allah has forbidden them. This is the evil of Shaitan, from humans or jinn, who tempts a person by disappearing at the mention of the name of Allah, whether he is hidden from view or visible to them, and who covers his temptation with cunning and deception.
114:1. Say: “I seek refuge in the Lord of men and the Ruler of their affairs,
114:2. The ruler of all people, who has complete power over them - rulers and ruled,
114:3. The God of men, to whom they are completely subject, and He has the power to do with them whatever He pleases,
114:4. from the evil of the one who tempts people, encouraging them to commit sins, and disappears if you resort to Allah, asking for protection from him,
114:5. who quietly tempts the hearts of people, instilling in them something that will seduce them and turn them away from the straight path,
114:6. be the tempter a genie or a man.”

Surah An-Nas and its virtues

The final, one hundred and fourteenth sura “An-Nas” (“People”) of the Holy Quran is considered special among Muslims. It represents six amazing-sounding verses revealed during the Meccan period of the prophecy of Muhammad (pbuh)

Text of the sura in Arabic and translation:

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Gracious and Merciful!

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

Say: “I seek refuge in the Lord of men,

مَلِكِ النَّاسِ

King of people

إِلَهِ النَّاسِ

God of people

مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ

from the evil of the tempter who disappears at the remembrance of Allah,

الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ

who whispers in the breasts of men,

مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَ النَّاسِ

from jinn and people.

“An-Nas” is a kind of continuation of the previous sura – “Al-Falyak”, in which the Creator calls on His creatures to resort to His protection from the evil in the world. The instigators of evil, as stated in the last verses of the Koran, can be both people themselves and the devil and the jinn. However, whatever the source of evil, one should rely solely on the Lord of the worlds, who is the best of helpers.

“That night Allah revealed to me verses that have no similarity. These are suras “Al-Falyak” and “An-Nas” (Muslim, Nasai, at-Tirmidhi).

Hadiths on the importance of Surah An-Nas

In a conversation with one of his companions, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: “O Abu Habis! Shall I inform you of the best words that people who seek Allah’s protection can utter?” He replied: “Of course, O Messenger of Allah!” Then the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, read the last two surahs of the Holy Quran - “Al-Falyak” and “An-Nas” - and said: “These are two surahs through which [people] resort to the protection of Allah” (hadith reported by An -Nasai, al-Baghawi, etc.)

Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, resorted to the protection of Allah from the evil eye of people and jinn through prayers. When two suras were revealed (“Al-Falyak” and “An-Nas”) through which one can resort to the protection of the Almighty, he began to repeat [only] them and abandoned all other protective prayers (At-Tirmidhi)

Every night before going to bed, Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, blew on his palms and then read the last three surahs of the Holy Quran - “Al-Ikhlas”, “Al-Falak” and “An-Nas”. After this, he rubbed his palms over the entire body three times, starting with the head and face. As stated in one of the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, a person who said and did everything mentioned will be protected from evil until the morning (Sahih al-Bukhari).
