But the truth is, once the anime of the shonen genre was exactly like this: with long and tedious battles in which enemies are thrown over with pretentious phrases, and very slow development storyline. But as time goes on, the demands of the viewer grow, and the shёнnen genre evolves. I decided to devote the current review to one of the representatives of the new generation of senen: this will be a story about an anime Nanatsu no Taizai: The Seven Deadly Sins("Seven Deadly Sins", "7 Deadly Sins").

And the kingdom is still restless - the knights staged a coup and seized power, taking the entire royal family prisoner. Only Elizabeth, the king's youngest daughter, managed to escape. She decided to go in search of the Seven Deadly Sins, since only they are able to restore justice and restore order in the kingdom. For her luck, very soon she meets the head of the Seven Deadly Sins - young guy, the strongest among them. True, his appearance is not the most befitting, but who dares to condemn him? As a result, Meliodas decides to help the fragile girl, and together they go in search of the remaining sins.
Plot
The plot is simple, but interesting. Meliodas moves across the kingdom, gathering comrades who have scattered across the most distant corners of the earth, simultaneously fighting enemies in the person of the holy knights. The idea of the plot, in which the main character gathers his team over long series, is not new. However, in the case of The Seven Deadly Sins the plot does not slow down and is constantly evolving. In four episodes, you will be shown the same number as in any other shounen in twenty episodes.

There are many characters in the title. Who is only in The seven deadly sins no: here you have kings and knights and magicians, and ordinary residents, and sisters, and brothers, and distant relatives, and the dead, who turned out to be alive, and the living, who turned out to be dead, and also knights (there are really a lot of them). Among all this variety, a dozen characters play a significant role in the plot, the rest appear for a maximum of two episodes. I will not quote detailed description the main characters, since there is a detailed article on Wikipedia, and I do not want to repeat myself. I will only describe my impressions.
It is clear that he is the central character. This is another super-strong hero with incredible strength, which, however, is known to few. Due to this, situations often occur when various villains underestimate the enemy, and rightly get kicked in the soup. An often used technique, but no less pleasant for that. I liked Meliodas as the main character. He was made calm, self-confident, but at the same time ready to seriously fight for his friends and loved ones. The only thing I didn't like about him was his molestation of Elizabeth. But more on that later.
Elizabeth... A typical main character in anime, the main target audience of which are guys aged 14 and up. A slender, big-breasted blonde with a sweet character, besides, she is a princess. It is difficult to come up with a more fanservice hero. I would not have any complaints about her if the writers made her character deeper, because he seemed too superficial to me. Yes, she is direct, yes, honest and willing to sacrifice herself. And that is, in fact, everything. Over time, the character does not develop at all, and this is striking. Therefore, I cannot attribute Elizabeth to the pluses of The Seven Deadly Sins.
If we talk about the rest of the mortal sins, then the scriptwriters did their best. They are truly original and unusual. I especially want to note Bana- I have not seen a more charismatic character for a long time. On the one hand, he was made a goodie, but endowed with a lot of negative qualities, which draws even more attention to Ban. Plus, the writers came up with a high-quality and tragic backstory for him. It was not for nothing that I chose the one in which Ban and Meliodas are depicted together as the main image for the review, since they seemed to me the most interesting characters. However, the rest of the "deadly sins" are not inferior to them in originality.
But the villains did not impress me. The really evil heroes in The Seven Deadly Sins with all their appearance they give out how bad they are, they look very caricatured. If the villain looks like an adequate person, then most likely it will turn out that he was forced to commit atrocities, and in fact he is very good and fluffy. In general, I expected more from negative characters.
Panache and music
If I just liked the drawing, then I am indescribably delighted with the music. Gorgeous openings, gorgeous endings, gorgeous background music. I've said more than once that I don't often pay attention to background music while watching, but in the case of The Seven Deadly Sins, it instantly attracts attention. Drawing is good too - crisp, bright, shonen anime is great. Studio A-1 Pictures rarely disappoints in this regard.
Humor
The last plus that I want to note is humor. Meliodas' harassment aside, the jokes in the anime are funny and original. What is the armwrestling of Meliodas and Ban, after which the most powerful protective spells begin to break down. Thanks to humor, dramatic moments are balanced, which adds variety to the emotional background of The Seven Deadly Sins. And the more diverse the anime, the more interesting it is to watch, isn't it?
disadvantages
First - fan service... Meliodas' harassment to Elizabeth is ridiculous for one, well, two episodes at most. Then I did not feel anything but irritation. And it would be fine if she fought back and fought back, but on the contrary, Elizabeth reacts to harassment as a matter of course. The second disadvantage is unjustified cruelty. And I noticed the following paradox: despite the fact that blood is constantly spilled on the screen, no one dies! Even if it seems that the character has passed away, after a few minutes it turns out that he miraculously escaped. Do you show the viewer blood, but at the same time do not want to traumatize him with the death of the hero? So what? And the third drawback is chatter during battles. Let this manifest itself to a lesser extent than in other shonen anime, but it was not possible to completely get rid of the pretentious phrases.
A moment of reflection
A little boring thoughts that don't have direct relationship To "The Seven Deadly Sins"... I think it becomes obvious from the introduction to the review that my attitude towards shounen is generally negative. The reason is simple: very often, when writing a script, the authors frankly cheat, which leads to a sharp decrease in quality. You don't have to go far for an example - take the same Naruto or Bleach... I'm not saying this anime is bad, but one fact is indisputable: it is simply impossible to make an anime rich and interesting when its length exceeds five hundred episodes. In the works I have listed, the plot is generally not bad, but it is so diluted with useless chatter and fillers (plot branches) that it becomes, as it were, secondary.
Now imagine Naruto, but not consisting of five hundred episodes, but fifty, even one hundred episodes. Throw out pretentious conversations during battles, throw out episodes that are not related to the main plot - and you will get a very high-quality and rich series that will be interesting to watch not only for ardent fans, but also for any person who is not indifferent to anime. But, unfortunately, it is more profitable for studios to release five hundred episodes of the popular shounen, because there will still be a viewer, so you don't have to worry about the quality. Money, money decides everything ...
In fact, it’s not all bad. There are only four shonen anime that come to my mind, the length of which has exceeded 300 episodes: this is the well-known Naruto, One Peace, Fairy Tail and Bleach. It's just that they seem so dominant that when the word "shounen" is mentioned, it is these titles that pop into my head. However, shounen has long since ceased to be slow and boring. It is no longer so easy for the viewer to feed a sluggish anime. Therefore, studios have to come up with new tricks when releasing shonen anime in order to get the attention of the viewer. And by example The Seven Deadly Sins it can be seen in all its glory - the competent work of scriptwriters and directors is obvious.
Evaluations
Characters - 7.0. As in any other shounen, the characters great amount, but only a dozen important for the plot. Qualitative goodies, stereotyped negative ones.
Plot - 7.0. Trivial, but hooks and looks surprisingly easy. You don't notice how you swallow batch after batch. The main interest is not the main storyline, but some secondary ones.
Drawing - 8.0. Beautiful and bright. Shounen anime is great.
Music - 10.0. Very high quality background music, and wonderful openings and endings.
Humor - 8.0. Aside from the harassment of poor Elizabeth, there were many funny moments.
Conclusion
I like it. Probably one of the best shounen I've seen. The Seven Deadly Sins by his example, he proves that the genre is developing, and that anime does not stand still. If you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the fabulous Middle Ages, both beautiful and cruel - better choice than "The Seven Deadly Sins" you are unlikely to find. For all its outward simplicity, this anime catches on from the very first minutes of viewing, and does not let go until the very end.
